The tars formed up in smart style in the ground, and both they and the Marines lined up two deep. His Excellency inspected the lines, and also the guns placed on the har- bour wall It is, wo understand, four years ago since a naval review itook place at Hongkong and it is to be regretted that they are not more frequent. Besides giving the general' public an idea of the efficiency of our Navy, such exhibitions as that given yesterday helps to cement the feelings between the civilian and the sailor more closely together. 'This was clearly evidenced yesterday as on several occasions the patriotism of those present found expression in repeated applause. The sight was indeed a fine one and the tars showed themselves to be exception- ally efficient in their duties. Their marching was excellent, and the smartness with which the firing parties acquitted themselves was loudly applauded. Commander Pike gave the necessary words of command. A Royal Salute was fired, after which the yard resound- ed with three hearty cheers from the men. The march past in extended column was a splendid sight, the men then forming into two compact squares. During the review the gung from which the Salute had been fired headed the march, and lent additional splendour to the whole scene.
Parties were afterwards enter- tained on board the warship in the dry dock.
